I've been using the Couch to 5K app on my iPhone to train for the upcoming superhero 5K in Asheville. The goal is to build up your endurance and time spent running over 9 weeks. I'm currently on week 5. "But V, you've been out pounding the pavement for more than 5 weeks. How can you only be on week 5?" I know, I know... I've been stretching things out a bit. I'll re-do a work out for a few times till I feel comfortable to move on. I've been on week 5, day 2 for about 3 weeks now. It takes you from an 5 minute warm up, 8 minute run, 5 minute walk, 8 minute run, 5 minute cool down right to a 5 minute warm up, 20 minute run, 5 minute cool down. That's crazy! No move it up a few minutes to a 10 minute run with a break? NOPE! But today, after the first 8 minute run I just kept on going, right through the 5 minute walk and on through the next 8 minute run for a total of 21 minutes! And dare I say... I felt like I could have gone even more! All of this was after a week long break of a great visit from RebaSo and a busy weekend.
I've also been using the Nike+ app on my iPhone to track my milage and pace. Today of all days, the GPS didn't work. So it said I only ran .3 miles. But I've tracked it myself and I actually did about 2.25 miles in about 38 minutes. I may be slow, but at lest I'm out there doing it. (That's what I keep telling myself when I get bummed about my pace.)
Bring on that superhero 5K!
